Stormy Ora continues to get closer and closer to breaking her maiden status.

She missed by a neck at Northam on WA Day at Northam in the Furphy Maiden over 1100m, beaten by Tawny Pete.

Shaun McGruddy steered Stormy Ora and was able to find the front upon settling.

He controlled the race aboard the three-year-old filly, but was just caught in the shadow of the post by a runner who had the perfect run in the race.

It was Stormy Ora’s fourth career run and chalked up her first second placing to go with a third placing.

Expect her to improve again next time out as Monday was her first up effort.

Stablemate Flat Biccy also travelled to Northam and was luckless in the Transylvania Maiden over 1400m.

Willie White was in the saddle and struggle to find clear galloping room in the straight.

It was a pleasing return for the four-year-old gelding who was at the races for the first time since October 2016.

He finished sixth, beaten just over three lengths.
