Rundown: Ascot 8/03/14
Mar 09, 2014
Race 2: 6-Gorgeous Gift (Clint Harvey)
Race 2: 1000m; 9 runners; Clint Harvey; W25.70 P4.50
Jumped only fairly from 5 and dropped in behind heels to settle 7th (2-wide). Held a similar position in transit and was following the winner when 7th (2-wide) turning for home. Was asked for an effort on straightening but let down only evenly and worked to the line to finish 8th beaten 5.3L.
Gorgeous Gift's debut run on Saturday was satisfactory. She was slightly tardy out of the barrier and took position in the back half of the field, once positioned by jockey Clint Harvey the McFlirt filly traveled nicely.
Into the straight Clint balanced the filly up and asked for an effort, Gorgeous Gift didn't let down as expected she wobbled around and raced greenly, Clint pulled her to the outside and she made fair ground to the line. Gorgeous Gift was only beaten 5-1/4 lengths a margin I think can be improved on with some more racing under her belt and a longer distance. I feel she will come forward considerably with the experience of Saturday's race.
Gorgeous Gift has pulled up well and at this stage we will push on to a Westspeed 2YO Maiden over 1200m at Pinjarra Park on Thursday March 20.
