HARVEY RACING NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER & DECEMBER HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY MONTHS FOR HARVEY RACING!
On the Eve of the Melbourne Cup, the Manning Bowling Club were very pleased to once again hold a Melbourne Cup Calcutta at their Club Rooms. The evening was hosted by Perth Race Caller Darren McAullay who certainly kept the punters entertained!
Todd and Clint were invited guests of the club to share their experiences of the racing industry. Todd for his experience in being a part of the team that trained “Shocking’ to the 2009 Melbourne Cup win, when he was employed by Mark Kavanagh in Melbourne. Clint for his experience as a jockey with thoroughbred race horses, the injuries that he has sustained during his 13 years in the profession and the disappointment that comes with losing a race by the smallest of margins.
This really is a night not to be missed by racing enthusiasts. Watch this space for details of the 2012 Calcutta!

STUD TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND
On 20th November Todd flew from Perth to Auckland in New Zealand for a 5 day tour of some of the biggest and most successful Stud Farms in the World. Top Trainers on the tour included Peter Moody, Mick Price, Robert Heathcote and Tony McEvoy. Todd was also reunited with “Shocking” the 2009 Melbourne Cup Winner. Todd was part of the team that trained the horse whilst he was working for Mark Kavanagh in Melbourne at that time.
The itinerary included a visit to Westbury Stud in Karaka which is owned by Gerry Harvey and Windsor Park Stud in Cambridge where the very famous “So You Think” was bred. We then visited three more studs in Cambridge. Trelawney Stud where 7 Melbourne Cup Winners have been bred, Pencarrow Stud which is owned by Peter Velds, the Owner of New Zealand Blood Stock and Sir Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge Stud which is the home of Champion Sire Zabeel who is still serving mares at the age of 25! It was fantastic to visit Rich Hill Stud in Matamata and be reunited with Shocking, the 2009 Melbourne Cup Winner. Whilst in Matamata we also visited Waikato Stud which is owned by Gary Chiddick.
Some outstanding yearlings were viewed by Todd that will go to Karaka Sales in 2012. One in particular is a filly by New Zealand’s leading sire Thorn Park out of the Scenic West Australian Mare Bremer Bay. The filly is a half sister to this year’s WA Guineas runner up, Caiguna. Should anyone be interested in this filly or any other yearlings for Karaka 2012 please contact Todd to discuss details.
At the Stables during Todd’s break Rob, Gail, Clint, Amie and Sharon continued the day to day operations with Clint doing most of the track work for the stable.
