Race 6: 14-Touch Of Black (Clint Harvey)
Race 6: 2200m; 16 runners; Clint Harvey; W100.40 P17.30
Jumped okay from 10 but was eased back behind heels, dropping into the 2-wide line when 12th passing the winning post the first time. Began losing her position from the 1600m and had been shuffled back to last passing the 1000m. Was asked to improve along the rail from the 600m before suffering a check at the 500m and losing momentum, turning for home last (rail). Was well out of contention on straightening and wasn't knocked around when working to the line to finish 15th beaten 12.8L.
Touch Of Black didn't have much luck on Saturday in the Natasha Stakes and it has been decided to spell the filly.
From barrier 10 jockey Clint Harvey had her in a beautiful position one-off the rail midfield. From that point onwards things went pear-shaped and she was dragged back through the field by tiring horses. At the 600m Touch Of Black was a clear last and she only made fair ground to the line. It was hard for her to make ground from where she was on turning.
We have decided to rest Touch Of Black, it has been a slightly unlucky campaign with the filly and we feel with some more time she will make a handy stayer. She is still maturing and she will get better with age.
