Classy mare Misty Metal led her rivals a merry dance to score an emphatic win in the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) at Ascot yesterday.
Backed from $4.40 to $3.70 favouritism, Misty Metal burst out of barrier 11 to lead comfortably for jockey Shaun McGruddy and was never headed.
The Robert and Todd Harvey-trained mare beat Celebrity Dream ($5) 2 3/4 lengths, with Private Dancer ($41) running third.
Todd Harvey said Misty Metal, a winner at eight of 15 starts, was likely to be set for the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) on January 5.
“She was sensational today,” he said.
“We were actually pretty confident with her. The horse was in very good order and it’s just a big thrill.
“She’s always had a lot of ability, it just took her a while to find her feet and once she got there, away she went.”
Misty Metal delivered part-owner Shirley Piper the perfect birthday present after she celebrated her birthday on Friday.
Lex and Shirley Piper also won the Jungle Mist Classic with the Robert Harvey-trained Rouge Dior in 2013.
